Brain haemorrhage: signs and assessment
Time matters when neurological symptoms begin suddenly. Bleeding and a blocked blood vessel cannot be distinguished at home.
Do not wait with emergency symptoms
Call 112 in Türkiye for a sudden extremely severe headache, weakness on one side of the face or body, speech difficulty, loss of vision or altered awareness. Do not postpone assessment even if symptoms pass; do not drive yourself.
Preview draft: clinical content and translations await hospital review.
Bleeding and stroke
Blood leaking into or around the brain can put pressure on tissue and damage it. Stroke caused by bleeding and stroke caused by a blocked vessel require different treatment; symptoms alone cannot guide self-treatment.
Information for the emergency team
- When symptoms began, or when the person was last seen well. Do not delay the 112 call to gather information.
- Medicines taken, particularly blood thinners, and any recent fall or head injury.
- Follow the 112 operator’s instructions. Do not independently give aspirin or extra medicine when bleeding is suspected.
How are diagnosis and treatment planned?
Examination and a brain CT scan (computed tomography), with MRI or vessel imaging when needed, help identify the site and cause. Treatment may involve close monitoring, medicines or a procedure or operation. Not every bleed requires surgery; the clinical team decides.
Recovery and family support
Recovery time and support needs vary. Rehabilitation may help movement, speech, swallowing or daily tasks. Follow the review and medicine plan; do not wait for a routine appointment if new symptoms occur. Methods described here do not confirm current services at our hospital.
