Bowel preparation is an important part of the examination. Learn about individual instructions, the procedure day, results and signs needing prompt care.

Preview draft: clinical content and translations await hospital review.

Your preparation checklist

  • Follow the procedure team’s written plan for bowel-cleansing medicine, food, fluids and timing.
  • Report diabetes, kidney or heart disease, blood thinners and all other medicines in advance; do not change doses yourself.
  • Contact the team if you cannot finish preparation. Do not try extra doses or another product; incomplete cleansing may mean repeating the examination.
  • If sedation will be used, arrange someone to take you home; do not drive afterwards.
